چکیده

Cicer arietinum, Ascochyta rabiei, Elicitor. Isoflavones, Phytoalexins Upon slicing cotyledons of chickpea, Cicer arietinum L ., accumulate the pterocarpan phyto alexins medicarpin and maackiain. Treatment of this tissue with an elicitor from the phytopathogenic deuteromycete Ascochyta rabiei (Pass.) Lab. greatly enhances accumulation of the pterocarpans and of other isoflavones and flavonoids. Isolation, chromatographic purification and structural elucidation by spectroscopic techniques of 16 phenolic compounds is described. Cotyle dons induced for phytoalexin biosynthesis readily accumulate the isoflavones daidzein, for m ononetin. calycosin and pseudobaptigenin which are thought to be intermediates in pterocarpan formation.

Elicitation of Pterocarpan Phytoalexins in Cell Suspension Cultures of Different Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) Cultivars by an Elicitor from the Fungus Ascochyta rabiéi

Cell suspension cultures of two chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) cultivars, resistant and susceptible towards the chickpea pathogen Ascochyta rabiei, were compared with regard to elicitor-induced changes in phytoalexin and isoflavone accumulation. The elicitor was isolated from fermentergrown mycelium of A. rabiei and it mainly consisted of glucose, mannose and N-acetylgalactosamin. Time course an...

Elicitor Induction of Cytochrome P-450 Monooxygenases in Cell Suspension Cultures of Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) and Their Involvement in Pterocarpan Phytoalexin Biosynthesis

A yeast glucan elicitor causes the accumulation o f the pterocarpan phytoalexins medicarpin and maackiain in chickpea ( Cicer arietinum) cell suspension cultures established from seeds. A cell culture line from a chickpea cultivar resistant against its main fungal pathogen Ascochyta rabiei accumulates large amounts (944 nmol/g fr. wt.) whereas a cell culture line from a susceptible cultivar acc...

Nitric oxide synthase-mediated phytoalexin accumulation in soybean cotyledons in response to the Diaporthe phaseolorum f. sp. meridionalis elicitor.

Phytoalexin biosynthesis is part of the defense mechanism of soybean (Glycine max) plants against attack by the fungus Diaporthe phaseolorum f. sp. meridionalis (Dpm), the causal agent of stem canker disease. The treatment of soybean cotyledons with Dpm elicitor or with sodium nitroprusside (SNP), a nitric oxide (NO) donor, resulted in a high accumulation of phytoalexins. This response did not ...

Host-Pathogen Interactions : XXI. Extraction of a Heat-Labile Elicitor of Phytoalexin Accumulation from Frozen Soybean Stems.

An extract of frozen and thawed soybean (Glycine max L. Merr. cv. Wayne) stems is active, in wounded soybean cotyledons, as a heat-labile elicitor of phytoalexins. The elicitor activity of the extract is destroyed by heating to 95 degrees C for 10 minutes. The fraction that contains heat-labile elicitor activity releases heat-stable elicitor-active molecules from purified soybean cell walls. He...

Effect of salicylic acid and structurally related compounds in the accumulation of phytoalexins in cotyledons of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cultivars.

In the present work, isoflavonoid phytoalexin production in response to the application of salicylic acid in cotyledons of four common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) cultivars (SA) was evaluated. The time-course and dose-response profiles of the induction process were established by quantifying the isoflavonoids by HPLC. Cotyledons of anthracnose-resistant cultivars induced by SA produced substantia...
